Remembering Eben Morgan

Eben Morgan, former President of Pickard China, passed away on Saturday, June 7th, at his home in Winnetka, Illinois, after a long fight with cancer. Pickard tableware is still produced in its factory in Antioch, Illinois, something Morgan remained committed to during the more than 16 years he served as President.

He became involved in the family-owned and operated business following his marriage to Mari Pickard, granddaughter of the founder of the company. After serving as Plant Manager and Executive Vice President he succeeded the retiring President, Peter Pickard.

Morgan was a graduate of Duke University where he played on the university’s first NCAA tournament team. He was later drafted in the seventh round of the NBA draft, but chose to begin his career in manufacturing.

Midwest Introduces Searchable E-Catalogs, Online Tools

Midwest, designer and manufacturer of seasonal home accents, candles and accessories, has launched a new initiative to provide convenient, on-demand “e-tools” for independent retailers. The first phase includes the debut of Midwest’s new e-catalogs for its Seasons of Cannon Falls, Colonial Candle and Delight brands, which are available online at www.midwestofcannonfalls.com.

Midwest’s e-catalogs include all products introduced during the summer 2008 markets, including the Suzy Toronto, Monkeying Around and re:VIVE collections. The new e-catalogs feature an advanced search function, allowing retailers to view and search products with the click of a mouse, including product images, descriptions, sizes and pricing. Midwest’s e-catalogs allow buyers to build personalized wish lists and e-mail that list to their Midwest account manager to place an order, reorder or request images.

Midwest’s enhanced website also features new display tools for independent retailers, including display idea recipe cards featuring photos and lists of items to create the displays shown, as well as display ideas from Midwest’s showrooms.
Midwest will introduce the next phase of its e-tools, including additional online display and event tools and more catalogs, throughout the year.
